The estate traces its origins back to the 18th century, with significant revitalization occurring in the late 20th century when new ownership invested in modern winemaking techniques and vineyard management. The château’s vineyards are planted primarily on limestone and clay soils, which contribute to the structure and minerality of their wines. Their production approach emphasizes meticulous hand-harvesting, careful sorting of grapes, and a blend of traditional methods with contemporary technology to ensure quality at every stage.Beyond their flagship Fronsac red blends dominated by Merlot, Château La Vieille Cure cultivates smaller parcels of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that add complexity to their cuvées. While they focus mainly on red Bordeaux-style wines, they have also experimented with limited releases featuring single-varietal bottlings from exceptional vintages. The estate does not produce spirits or beer but has gained attention for sustainable viticulture practices such as cover cropping and reduced chemical inputs. Their portfolio appeals to collectors seeking age-worthy Bordeaux as well as enthusiasts interested in expressive terroir-driven wines from lesser-known appellations like Fronsac.
