Tinto Pesquera

Tasting Notes and Characteristics:Tinto Pesquera greets the palate with a velvety texture and a balanced, full-bodied character that makes it an inviting choice for intimate dinners or festive gatherings. With an ABV of 14%, this Spanish red wine is crafted in the Ribera del Duero region using 100% Tempranillo grapes. The winemaking process involves careful fermentation and aging in American oak barrels, which imparts depth and complexity to each bottle. On tasting, Tinto Pesquera reveals layers of ripe blackberries, plums, and subtle hints of licorice intertwined with gentle notes of vanilla and spice from its oak maturation. These flavors harmonize beautifully with roasted lamb, enhancing the meat’s savory richness while complementing its earthy undertones. It also pairs elegantly with Manchego cheese, as the wine’s fruit-forward profile balances the cheese’s nutty sharpness for a satisfying culinary experience.Producer Information: Alejandro FernándezAlejandro Fernández was based in the Ribera del Duero region of Spain, where he founded his iconic winery, Pesquera, in the early 1970s. Starting with a small family-owned vineyard and a deep respect for traditional viticulture, Fernández focused on reviving the potential of Tempranillo grapes in an area that was largely overlooked at the time. His production approach emphasized low yields, careful hand-harvesting, and extended aging in both American and French oak barrels to create wines with structure and longevity. This meticulous attention to detail helped establish Ribera del Duero as a premier wine-producing region.Beyond his flagship Pesquera estate, Alejandro Fernández expanded his portfolio to include other notable wineries such as Condado de Haza, Dehesa La Granja in Zamora, and El Vínculo in La Mancha. Each property showcases distinct terroirs while maintaining a focus on indigenous Spanish grape varieties like Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Fino or Cencibel). In addition to red wines, some estates under his group have experimented with limited white wine production using Albillo Mayor grapes. While primarily celebrated for still wines, Fernández’s influence also extended into producing high-quality olive oil and supporting local gastronomy through estate-grown products.
