Prunier XO Très Vieille Grande Champagne: The Essence of Premier Cru Elegance
Prunier XO Très Vieille Grande Champagne is a 100% Grande Champagne Cognac created from eaux-de-vie that have been aged for an average of 45 years. There’s a reason that the Grande Champagne region is known as the Premier Cru: its wonderful, deep chalky soil allows for consistent growing conditions and steady maturation of grapes even during the hottest summers.
Created by Jean Burnez in the early 1930s, this blend originally went by the name of ‘Patriarche’ to reflect its character as a personal selection by the most senior member of the family. The base of very old Cognacs aged in humid, cool cellars has remained the same for generations, with each successive Master Blender bringing their personal touch to the final product with a small portion of additional eaux-de-vie. Stéphane Burnez, the current Master Blender, prefers a lighter style with less oak influence, allowing the character of the eaux-de-vie to shine through above all.
This wonderful Cognac contains elements that have come from Prunier’s Paradis cellars, and Stéphane’s expertise has created a product that exudes finesse, complexity and smoothness. From aromas of candied fruits to tropical fruit and exotic tobacco notes, every moment spent enjoying this fine Cognac takes you on a journey. This is truly a classic expression – and one that offers superb value for money.
Experts in fine vintages, Prunier specialize in buying eaux-de-vie directly from winegrowers and distillers to age in their own cellars by the Charente, allowing them to select only the most exceptional vintages. This ancient Maison dates back to 1665, perfectly located in a quaint medieval house in the centre of Cognac. In the early 20th Century, the Prunier family left no descendants when Alphonse Prunier died. It was his widow who passed the deeds to her nephew Jean Burnez, allowing them to continue as a family company and maintain their strong traditions.

Recommended Serve
Rare old Grande Champagne blends like this deserve attention: pour gently into a tulip glass and let it rest for 30 seconds before taking a sip. To allow the aromas to open up further, a small dash of mineral water could be added.
