Producer Information
Nestled in the glacial valley of the Alto-Adige region sits a vineyard where Pinot Grigio grapes are grown, hand-picked, and hand sorted to make Luna Nuda Pinot Grigio. Castelfeder Winery, founded by Alfons Giovanett in 1970, has been carefully curating Luna Nuda wines for more than a decade. Giovanett was fascinated by the effect the phases of the moon on the winemaking process, and believed that pruning vines, bottling wine, and even tasting is best done under a full, or naked moon. (Today, many of these practices are a part of biodynamic winemaking) He believed that these practices not only elevated the quality of the wine, but would bring good fortune. Alfons would gather family and friends on the night of each full moon and raise a glass to the positive energy of the lunar cycle. Today Castelfeder has grown a bit from the early 70s, but is still run by the Giovanett family. Alfons’ grandchildren, Ivan and Ines Giovanett are the third generation running the winery. They curate Luna Nuda Pinot Grigio, Rosè, and Red Blend from the finest grapes in Italy. Luna Nuda’s Prosecco and Prosecco Rosè are grown in Treviso, the birthplace of Prosecco. Each varietal is crafted to ensure that when you open a bottle of Luna Nuda with family and friends, it’s as if you’re raising a glass underneath a perfect, naked moon.
