Process & Profile
Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon is a bold, batch-driven whiskey developed to complement the richness and complexity of a fine cigar. The blend combines Joseph Magnus Bourbon with older whiskey components, including 11- and 18-year-old whiskeys, before being finished in carefully selected Armagnac casks.
The Armagnac finish builds upon the bourbon’s caramel, vanilla, spice, and oak foundation by introducing layers of fig, prune, dried apricot, leather, and dark fruit. Each batch is blended and bottled separately, allowing the proof and exact flavor profile to vary between releases.
Depending on the batch, Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon generally ranges from approximately 100.7 to 130.6 proof. Lower-proof batches can present a softer, fruitier character, while higher-proof releases often deliver greater intensity, oak, baking spice, and tobacco notes.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Aromatic tobacco, worn leather, vanilla, caramel, dried fig, prune, baking spice, and toasted almonds
Palate: Rich toffee, dark dried fruit, vanilla bean, dried apricot, charred oak, brown sugar, and warming spice
Finish: Long and layered with lingering tobacco, leather, dark fruit, toasted nuts, oak, and Armagnac-influenced sweetness
What Makes It Special
Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon stands apart through its combination of mature bourbon, older whiskey components, and an Armagnac cask finish. Rather than adding simple sweetness, the finishing casks contribute concentrated dried-fruit, nutty, and brandy-like flavors that complement the bourbon’s deeper oak and spice characteristics.
Each batch develops its own identity based on the whiskeys selected, the specific Armagnac cask, and the final bottling proof. This means one batch may emphasize fig, prune, and caramel, while another may lean toward tobacco, leather, dark chocolate, baking spice, or toasted oak.
Its full-bodied profile was created to remain expressive alongside a cigar, but the whiskey’s complexity also makes it appealing as a standalone pour for collectors and fans of richly finished bourbon.
How to Enjoy
Enjoy Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon neat in a wide whiskey glass to experience its layers of dried fruit, tobacco, vanilla, spice, and oak. Allowing the whiskey to rest for several minutes can help the concentrated Armagnac and dark-fruit aromas open in the glass.
Higher-proof batches may benefit from a few drops of water, which can soften the alcohol and reveal additional caramel, fig, almond, and baking-spice notes. It can also be served over one large ice cube, although drinking it neat provides the clearest expression of its batch-specific character.
As its name suggests, Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon can be paired with a full-flavored cigar, particularly one with earthy, nutty, cocoa, leather, or baking-spice notes.
