Process & Profile
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel 2025 Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye is a limited barrel-proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey showcasing exceptionally mature, high-proof barrels from one of the oldest maturation locations at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
The whiskey begins with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley. After distillation, it undergoes the signature charcoal mellowing process before entering new, handmade American white oak barrels.
The barrels selected for this release were filled in November 2015 and matured in Barrel House 1 atop Tanyard Hill, an elevated area neighboring the celebrated Coy Hill. Tanyard Hill’s barrelhouses date to the early 1960s, and the location experiences significant seasonal temperature changes that encourage prolonged interaction between whiskey and oak.
Released in 2025 after nearly a decade of maturation, each bottle comes from an individual barrel and is bottled at full barrel proof. The bottles offered in this listing range from 142.4 to 142.6 proof, equal to 71.2%–71.3% ABV.
Tasting Notes

What Makes It Special
The 2025 Tanyard Hill Rye continues Jack Daniel’s exploration of how specific barrelhouse locations can shape whiskey during extended maturation.
Following the attention surrounding previous Coy Hill releases, Jack Daniel’s turned to neighboring Tanyard Hill, where four barrelhouses built in the early 1960s occupy another distinctive section of the Lynchburg property. This release comes specifically from Barrel House 1.
The rye entered barrels in November 2015 and matured for nearly 10 years before selection. That extended aging is particularly notable for rye whiskey, developing concentrated dark fruit, chocolate, mint, baking spice, tobacco, and mature oak alongside the grain’s naturally spicy character.
Proof is another defining feature. While the complete 2025 Tanyard Hill release varies considerably from barrel to barrel, the bottles available in this listing fall within an exceptionally high 142.4–142.6 proof range.
Because every bottle originates from a single barrel rather than a standardized batch, individual barrels retain their own proof and subtle flavor characteristics. This combination of nearly decade-long maturation, unique warehouse provenance, single-barrel variation, and extreme barrel strength makes Tanyard Hill one of the more distinctive Jack Daniel’s rye releases.
How to Enjoy
Enjoy Jack Daniel’s 2025 Tanyard Hill Rye neat in a Glencairn or other whiskey tasting glass to experience its concentrated dark fruit, mint, chocolate, spice, tobacco, and oak character.
At 142.4–142.6 proof, this is an exceptionally powerful whiskey. Allowing the pour to rest for several minutes can help the aromas develop before tasting.
Adding a few drops of water is particularly useful at this strength. Gradual dilution can reduce the alcohol intensity while revealing additional dark fruit, chocolate, candied mint, baking spice, and sweet oak.
For enthusiasts, tasting the whiskey first at barrel proof and then slowly adding water provides an opportunity to experience how its profile changes at different strengths.
