Hennessy ‘The Spirit of the NBA’ X.O. Cognac
Hennessy, a producer established in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, presents its distinguished X.O. Cognac in a special ‘The Spirit of the NBA’ edition. The X.O. classification, signifying “Extra Old,” was introduced by Maurice Hennessy in 1870, marking a new style of Cognac. This particular release celebrates the ongoing association between Hennessy and the National Basketball Association.
This Cognac originates from the Cognac region of France, located within the Charente department. It is crafted primarily from Ugni Blanc grapes, which are prized for their acidic and light characteristics, ideal for producing fine eaux-de-vie. Following double distillation in traditional copper pot stills, the eaux-de-vie are aged in French oak barrels. Hennessy X.O. is a blend of eaux-de-vie, with the youngest aged for a minimum of 10 years. However, this blend typically incorporates eaux-de-vie that have matured for much longer, often up to 30 years, and sometimes as old as 70 years, with an average age around 45 years. This extensive aging results in a rounded profile, presenting flavors of candied fruit and subtle, lightly spicy aromas. On the palate, it offers a smooth, full sensation with a powerful yet soft character, revealing hints of cocoa and a warm fruity presence. The long finish highlights the complexity achieved through its blending.
This Hennessy ‘The Spirit of the NBA’ X.O. Cognac is presented in a 750 ml bottle, featuring a unique design that is often housed in a collector’s gift box. It has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 40%. This release is a limited edition, marking a special collaboration.
