Tasting Notes and Characteristics:The first sip of Protos Gran Reserva wraps you in a tapestry of dark cherry, cedar, and subtle tobacco, evoking the warmth of a Spanish evening. Crafted in Spain with an alcohol by volume of 14.5%, this Tempranillo-based red is aged patiently in oak barrels to coax out layers of dried fig, leather, and spice that linger long after each taste. Its robust structure and velvety tannins make it a perfect companion for roasted lamb or slices of Manchego cheese, where the wine’s earthy depth harmonizes beautifully with savory flavors on your plate.Producer Information: Bodegas ProtosBodegas Protos, established in 1927 in the heart of Peñafiel within Spain’s Ribera del Duero region, was founded by a group of visionary local winegrowers who sought to harness the unique terroir surrounding the iconic Peñafiel Castle. Their philosophy centers on expressing the character of Tempranillo grapes through meticulous vineyard management and a blend of traditional and modern winemaking techniques, including aging in both French and American oak barrels. While their flagship wines highlight the depth and structure typical of Ribera del Duero reds, Protos also crafts elegant Verdejo from Rueda, showcasing their commitment to regional diversity. The winery’s location at the confluence of historic limestone caves and cutting-edge architecture underscores their dedication to both heritage and innovation within Spanish viticulture.
