The winery was founded in 1964 by British expatriate Peter Newton, who sought to bring a European sensibility to California winemaking. Sterling Vineyards is known for its innovative approach, including gravity-flow production methods that minimize handling and preserve the integrity of the grapes. The estate’s iconic white Mediterranean-style architecture and aerial tram add to its distinctive presence among Napa Valley wineries.Beyond their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, Sterling Vineyards produces a diverse portfolio that includes varietals such as Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Malbec. They also craft limited-edition reserve wines sourced from select vineyard blocks across Napa Valley’s sub-appellations. While primarily focused on wine production rather than spirits or beer, Sterling occasionally releases small-batch blends and single-vineyard bottlings that highlight unique terroir expressions within their estate holdings. Their commitment to sustainable viticulture practices further enhances the quality and character of their wines across all varietals.
